Bridge to Braves stadium focus of Tuesday vote

Bridge to Braves stadium focus of Tuesday vote

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Cobb officials are expected to vote Tuesday whether to begin negotiations with AECOM Technical Service to design a proposed bridge that would connect the new Atlanta Braves stadium with Cobb Galleria.

The county transportation department estimates the bridge's cost between $6 million to $9 million. It is still unclear how the project would be funded.

County Chairman Tim Lee hinted at a Monday town hall meeting that money to pay for the bridge could come from taxes. Some residents at the meeting questioned the need for the bridge and said they don't want taxes to pay for the project.

Lee declined to say at the meeting which bridge design he prefers.

At a town hall meeting in January, Lee said the bridge might be two levels, with one for pedestrians and one for a shuttle service. Lee has also said the bridge might only accommodate pedestrians.

State to restrict information release in Harris case

State to restrict information release in Harris case

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Prosecutors for the Justin Ross Harris trial hope to restrict the public release of information in the case.

Harris faces several charges, including malice murder, felony murder and cruelty to children, in the June 2014 death of his 22-month-old son Cooper. The child passed away after being left in a hot SUV all day. Harris's defense attorneys said Cooper's death was a tragic accident.

In a motion filed Monday in Cobb County Superior Court, the state argues that it wants to limit the release of information because of the pretrial publicity surrounding the case, as well as the number of Open Records Requests filed. Prosecutors are afraid both points could have an impact on potential jurors.

In a hearing held on Wednesday, prosecutors argued its case for blocking the release of all files.

An attorney for media outlets called the request too sweeping, saying that the public has the right to be heard.
