Rite Aid to Hold Free Diabetes Clinics

ATLANTA -- November is American Diabetes Month, and a number of Atlanta-area Rite Aid pharmacies will hold free Diabetes Solutions Days during the week of Nov. 1.

An annual tradition, these clinics are a great chance for patients and caretakers alike to brush up on the latest information from Rite Aid's clinical pharmacy team and the American Diabetes Association, a Rite Aid national strategic partner.

Clinics will take place at the following locations from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

Atlanta Diversity & Professional Career Fair

ATLANTA -- Diversity Hiring Expos invites all of Atlanta to participate in the Atlanta Diversity & Professional Career Fair.

The Kennesaw-based recruiting agency will host its fair on Tuesday, Nov. 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre (2 Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, 30339).

Job seekers of all races and education levels are invited to attend. Representatives from a number of top companies, educational institutions and non-profits will be on hand, looking to fill positions in a variety of fields, including sales, accounting/finance, customer service and consulting.

Atlanta Opera Receives Anonymous $112,000 Donation

ATLANTA -- Dennis Hanthorn, Zurich General Director of the Atlanta Opera, announced on Monday, Oct. 25 that the Atlanta Opera has received $112,000 from an anonymous donor.

The generous gift will be used to launch the "Heart of the Opera" campaign, a fundraising effort with a goal to raise $112,000 in 12 days.

"We have found in the past that the best way to encourage donations is to provide an incentive to match these contributions," said Mary K. Roarabaugh, director of development for the Atlanta Opera. "We decided to launch the 'Heart of the Opera' campaign to fill a need, and out of our profound appreciation for this anonymous donor, who personifies the heart of the opera."

"Heart of the Opera" will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Campbell High School Cares

SMYRNA, GA -- On Saturday, Oct. 30, Campbell High School will host a community-wide service event, Campbell Cares.

Students, parents, clubs, organizations and community volunteers will do a variety of service projects within the City of Smyrna, including painting, landscaping and renovation. Project sites include elementary schools, parks and retirement homes.

Campbell students who complete 20 or more hours of service will be honored at school award ceremonies and graduation, receiving the same recognition as participants in athletic and academic events.

Donations for the first Campbell Cares event are greatly appreciated. Donor recognition will be based on levels of contribution ($250, $500 and $1,000 increments).

Annual Cobb Arts Ball This Weekend

ATLANTA -- One of Cobb County's premier social events of the season will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23.

The annual Cobb Arts Ball will take place in the Kessel D. Stelling, Jr. Ballroom at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre (2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, 30339).

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction. Dinner will be served during the live auction at 7:30 p.m., followed by casino games and dancing at 9:00 p.m.

Individual tickets to the ball are $150 per person; table sponsorships begin at $1,500 for a table of eight.

Cobb County Hosting Second Medication Disposal Day

COBB COUNTY, GA -- Due to the overwhelming success of the first prescription drug take-back event, Keep Cobb Beautiful and Kaiser Permanente of Georgia are offering another Medication Disposal Program for the public.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Cobb County Government Offices at Powder Springs Station (1150 Powder Springs Road, Marietta, 30064).

This is the perfect opportunity for Cobb County residents to safely dispose of their outdated or unused over-the-counter or prescription medications.
