The Reason for the Season is at Vinings Jubilee

ATLANTA -- For the past 40 years, families have traveled from near and far for the annual Vinings Christmas Tree Lighting.

Always the first Thursday after Thanksgiving, this holiday celebration may be one of the most highly anticipated events of the community. This year, it will take place on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Vinings Jubilee (4300 Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, 30339).

The 2010 Christmas Tree Lighting promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a number of fun family activities, including train rides on the Vinings Express, pony rides, balloon twisting and seasonal face painting, along with prizes, festive music, food and drinks.

The cast of the Holiday Ice Spectacular, Atlanta's newest holiday revue debuting Thursday, Dec. 16 at the Cobb Energy Centre, will be there to mix, mingle and sign autographs. There is also a rumor that Santa Claus will stop by to listen to people's holiday wishes and have his picture taken . . .

Performance groups will include the Teasley Elementary School Choir, the Atlanta Opera and "Cover to Cover," the Lovett High School jazz band. Cover to Cover is comprised of the same students as Lovett's highly acclaimed Lovett Ellington Jazz Ensemble, one of only 15 groups recently selected to perform in the Essentially Ellington competition at Lincoln Center in New York City in May.

Admission to the Vinings Christmas Tree Lighting is free.
