Atlanta Opera names new development director | Arts & Culture
ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Opera has named a new director of development.
Zurich general director Dennis Hanthorn announced the appointment of Bert Wesley Huffman on Wednesday.
"I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to assist in furthering the vital mission of the Atlanta Opera," Huffman said. "Any fundraiser would feel blessed to be presented with the chance to marry their learned skills with a personal passion. I look forward to doing my part to continue the quality tradition of opera in the Metro Atlanta area."
In his new position, Huffman will oversee the development team and execute the overall strategy for the development effort which raises more than $3.4 million annually. He will also play a major role in expanding major donor fundraising by managing a portfolio of gift prospects and contributors.
A native of Blue Ridge, Ga., Huffman has held fundraising positions at Young Harris College and Emory University. Most recently, he served as director of development for the ASHRAE Foundation, an international association of engineers.
Huffman holds degrees from Young Harris College and Tennessee Wesleyan College, as well as a Master of Public Administration in Nonprofit Management from Kennesaw State University. He is also a professionally licensed Certified Fund Raising Executive.
An advocate of the arts, Huffman has been involved with musical theatre since childhood. He is also a runner and a movie buff.
Huffman will begin his new role with the Atlanta Opera on Aug. 29.
