Pebblebrook HS magnet program holding auditions

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- The Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts is looking for talented middle school students to join the magnet program.

Representatives from the program, which is located at Pebblebrook High School, will travel to middle schools across Cobb County to audition potential new students.

To be considered, a student must prepare a one- or two-minute monologue, ballet dance or song, depending on the intended area of study -- theatre, dance or voice, respectively. Students who want to be accepted in the technical theatre program must be ready to explain their interest and background in the discipline.

CCCEPA has already held auditions at several Cobb County middle schools, including Dickerson, Durham, Garrett, Lost Mountain and McCleskey.

ATLANTA -- One of the world's most famous dance troupes is in Atlanta for a holiday production.

The Rockettes began performances of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center Thursday night.

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Center for Children & Young Adults (CCYA) proudly presents the Berenstain Bears in Family Matters the Musical!

This show is in town for one day only -- Saturday, Oct. 5. There will be three performances: 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Earl Smith Strand Theater on the Marietta Square. All proceeds benefit CCYA.

Adapted from the classic children's book series by Stan and Jan Berenstain, this special family-friendly exclusive show event brings everyone's favorite bear family to life in an exciting theatrical experience that kids as well as their parents will treasure for many years to come. As always, Bear Country is not without its complications: Brother Bear's grades are slipping, Sister Bear still has a few things to learn about making new friends, and Papa Bear just can't stop eating junk food. Thankfully, we can always depend on Mama Bear and her loving patience to help set things right.

ATLANTA -- Morgan Stanley is the presenting sponsor of the Mountainfilm on Tour ATL event, held on Sept. 6 and 7 at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta. Mountainfilm on Tour is a traveling showcase of inspiring, adventurous and humorous short films spotlighting the environment and outdoor activity. All screenings during the two-day event are curated from the 2013 Mountainfilm in Telluride Film Festival held earlier this year.

Atlanta Opera opens season with 'Tosca'

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Opera will kick off its 2013-14 season with a production of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca.

The opera will come to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre stage in October. Tickets go on sale Thursday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m., and range in price from $26 to $133.

Tosca tells the story of a strong-willed woman trapped between two men: her lover Cavaradossi and police chief Scarpia, who loves her and will stop at nothing to take her for himself. The Atlanta Opera production will be sung in Italian with English translations projected above the stage.

Fox Theatre film festival begins next week

ATLANTA -- The Fox Theatre's 2013 Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival begins June 14 with a screening of a classic: Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It's one of many award-winning and much-loved movies in this year's lineup. More films will be added later in the season.
