MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Celebrate Freedom Festival will kick off this year's event with a 5K and 10K race in Marietta.

Both events will be held Saturday, Aug. 30 at Jim R. Miller Park. Registration opens at 6 a.m., with the 10K scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. The 5K will be off and running at 7:40 a.m.

Awards will be given to the first finishers overall, the first masters finishers and the top runners in each age group. All participants will receive T-shirts, goodie bags and two tickets to Celebrate Freedom, a free Christian music festival featuring such artists as Steven Curtis Chapman, Montell Jordan and Tenth Avenue North.

The 5K costs $30 in advance, while the 10K is $35. The prices go up to $40 for the 5K and $45 for the 10K on race morning.

Taste of Atlanta announces 2014 restaurant lineup

ATLANTA –- More than 90 of Atlanta’s most notable and on-the-rise restaurants have signed on to participate in this year’s Taste of Atlanta, which will take place October 24-26 in Midtown at Tech Square.

With eateries featured from both inside and outside the Perimeter, festival-goers will be able to savor truly authentic flavors that represent every corner of the city.

New this year, to help attendees pinpoint their local favorites or discover new dining treasures during Taste of Atlanta, the festival will take food lovers on a culinary tour through the city’s many diverse neighborhoods.

Race this weekend: Vinings Downhill

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- The 2014 Vinings Downhill 5K will be off and running this weekend.

The 5K will be Saturday, Aug. 16 at 8 a.m. in front of the Printpack building. The course drops about 280 feet, ending at the Lovett School in nearby Buckhead. A 1K fun run will start at 9 a.m. at the Vinings Jubilee shopping center.

Finishers will receive their choice of a blended T-shirt or running hat. They will also be admitted to a post-race celebration at Vinings Jubilee. 5K participants can choose to walk from Lovett to Vinings Jubilee (about half a mile) or take a shuttle.

Registration is $30 in advance and $40 on race day. Proceeds from the race will go to the Rotary Club of Vinings, which benefits a number of local causes like MUST Ministries, Cobb Christmas and Breakthrough Atlanta.

Registration for the 2014 Cobb County Senior Games is open until Aug. 8. Events will include basketball (three point shot and free throw), billiards, bocce ball, bowling, field events, golf, pickleball, putting, swimming, table tennis and track events. Registration is $20 for Cobb residents and $25 for non-residents. Bowling has an additional fee of $5 and includes three games and shoe rental. Golf has an additional fee of $40 and includes greens fees, cart, continental breakfast and lunch. Opening ceremony will be held Aug. 20 and closing ceremony Sept. 16. Tattoo parlor to hold body art boot camp

SMYRNA, Ga. -- A Cobb County tattoo parlor will hold a free open house ahead of its upcoming boot camp for professionals.

Southeast Tattoo Workshop's open house will be Monday, July 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees will see the facility, meet the instructors and learn what boot camp entails.

The two-week workshop focuses on several aspects of the industry, including tattoo history, modern safety practices and art training. It is taught by instructors with at least 15 years of experience.
