ATLANTA -- Fall is in the air, Halloween candy has begun to grace grocery store shelves and it's time to start training for a spooky race.

Several metro Atlanta 5Ks, 10Ks and more carry Halloween themes during this time of year. Here is a list of some of the area's fall runs.

Pike Nurseries to host gardening classes, sale

ATLANTA -- Fall, the prime planting season, is right around the corner, and Pike Nurseries has everything homeowners need to beautify their yards.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, all Pike locations in metro Atlanta will host a free fall gardening class. Nursery experts will take attendees through the process of picking out fall plants and caring for them.

The class will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and is free to attend.

Pike's Gardenfest event, where customers can enjoy complimentary refreshments while surveying a variety of plants and yard decorations, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Much of the merchandise will be on sale during Gardenfest.

Vinings announces first Restaurant Week

ATLANTA -- Vinings Jubilee will host the first-ever Vinings Restaurant Week from Sept. 23-29.

Sixteen Vinings restaurants will offer meals at three price points -- $15, $25 and $30 -- during Restaurant Week.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Four Atlanta-area Ruby Tuesday restaurants will donate 20% of customers' purchases this week to help Cobb County seniors.

The donations will be collected on Wednesday, Aug. 29 and Thursday, Aug. 30. The money raised will be donated to Meals on Wheels.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Craving something new? Check out one of the 44 area restaurants participating in Cobb Restaurant Week.

From Sept. 8-15, the restaurants will offer pre-selected three-course menus for $15, $25 or $35 per person, not including tax and tip.

Cobb Restaurant Week is sponsored by Cobb Travel & Tourism.

Tim Lee to speak at Vinings Business Association luncheon

ATLANTA -- Cobb County Commission Chairman Tim Lee will speak at the next Vinings Business Association lunch, which will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Lee, who was re-elected as chairman on Aug. 21, has been a public servant since 2002. He first served as District 3 (northeast Cobb) Commissioner before becoming chairman in 2010.

The lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Social Vinings. The cost is $15 for VBA members and $20 for guests.

Eat out, raise money, help kids

MARIETTA, Ga. -- You can do your part this week to curb Georgia's high school dropout rate. All you need to do is eat at one of your favorite restaurants.

On Thursday, Aug. 23, proceeds from restaurants across the state will be donated to Communities in Schools of Georgia, an organization that encourages young people to complete their education and succeed in life.

The sixth annual Dine Out for Kids event hopes to exceed last year's total of $30,000 for children in the state.

Communities in Schools, which has chapters across the country, provides mentoring and after-school services, including parent education, literacy programs and youth leadership opportunities.

Participating Dine Out for Kids restaurants in Cobb County include:
