Celebrate Spring with Free Italian Ice

MARIETTA, GA -- After an especially wild winter, Rita's Italian Ice is ready to celebrate spring.

On Sunday, Mar. 20, Rita's will hold its 19th annual First Day of Spring Giveaway. Customers who visit participating stores from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. will receive a free 10 oz. cup of Italian ice.

The First Day of Spring Giveaway is always a huge success.

Meet Author Jennie Helderman at Spring Book Show

ATLANTA -- Atlanta author Jennie Miller Helderman will host a writing workshop and sign copies of her book, As the Sycamore Grows, during the 2011 Spring Book Show at Cobb Galleria Centre (2 Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, 30339).

Helderman, an Alabama native, has written several books. Her short story, "Angel at the Crossroads," was nominated for the 2007 Pushcart Prize.

As the Sycamore Grows is the true story of a 17-year abusive marriage.

Great American Cleanup, Cobb Clean Sweep Coming in March

COBB COUNTY, GA -- Cobb County residents and students have a chance to be part of the biggest beautification and litter prevention effort ever.

The Great American Cleanup, which begins Tuesday, Mar. 1, is an annual nationwide community improvement campaign started in 1999 by Keep America Beautiful.

In 2009, Great American Cleanup volunteers donated more than 5.2 million hours of their time to clean, beautify and improve 32,000 communities in all 50 states and beyond.

Cobb County will kick off its leg of the Great American Cleanup with Clean Sweep Cobb, a series of service projects to be performed across the county on Saturday, Mar. 5.

ATLANTA -- Atlanta is getting ready to roll out the red carpet.

Oscar Night America-Atlanta returns to the Cobb Energy Centre (2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, 30339) on Sunday, Feb. 27.

Over 600 guests will be dazzled with a special sponsors' dinner, DJ and dancing, silent and live auctions, photo booth and the city's only official viewing party for the 83rd annual Academy Awards.

The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for sponsors and 7:30 p.m. for individual ticketholders.

IHOP Flips for Children's Miracle Network

SMYRNA, GA -- March 1 is National Pancake Day, and IHOP is celebrating by doing some good for sick children.

Next Tuesday, Mar. 1, IHOP restaurants nationwide will offer each guest a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes to raise awareness and funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals; in lieu of paying for their meal, diners are asked to donate to the organization.

Jean Birch, president of IHOP, and reigning Miss Georgia Christina McCauley will visit the Smyrna IHOP (2530 Cobb Parkway SE, 30080) from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
