Tennis Stars to Teach Clinic at Midtown Athletic Club

ATLANTA -- Midtown Athletic Club at Windy Hill (135 Interstate North Parkway NW, Atlanta, 30339) will celebrate its 22nd anniversary as a premiere tennis facility on Friday, Feb. 25.

A morning charity Pro-Am will kick off the festivities. Current ATP players Ryan Sweeting, Alex Kuznetsov, Amer Delic and Bobby Reynolds will serve as the player-captains.

The cost for the Pro-Am is $100 per person, which includes lunch, an autograph session and awards for participants. All proceeds will benefit the club's Tennis Opportunity Program (TOP).

During the afternoon, two tennis legends will hold adult and junior clinics.

Two Cobb Schools Place in Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

MARIETTA, GA -- On Saturday, Feb. 5, six Cobb County schools competed in the regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton:

* Casa Montessori, Marietta
* Austell Intermediate, Powder Springs
* Awtrey Middle, Kennesaw
* Campbell Middle, Smyrna
* Sprayberry High, Marietta
* McEachern High, Powder Springs

Overall, Sprayberry placed first at the high school level, and Austell Intermediate came in second place at the elementary school level.

Both teams will now advance to the Division 1 competition on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in Morrow.

The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is named for a now-retired DeKalb County Schools librarian who encouraged her students to read by creating a competition based on books that were nominated for the Georgia Children's Book Award. Her idea spread throughout Georgia and officially became a statewide event in 2003.

MARIETTA, GA -- May is Older American Month, and to recognize this distinction, Cobb County is bringing back the popular Senior Games for their 21st year.

Anyone age 50 or older is welcome to participate. It's a great opportunity to meet new people, compete in various sports, learn leisure skills and discover new recreational activities.

The Games' Opening Ceremony and Luncheon will be Thursday, Apr. 14 at C. Freeman Poole Senior Center (4025 South Hurt Road, Smyrna, 30080).

ATLANTA -- The 119 Atlanta-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host a special Daddy-Daughter Date Night on Saturday, Feb. 5.

Fathers and daughters will be encouraged to spend the evening together, enjoying time in the restaurant and participating in activities.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we come in contact with," said Robin Lomax, Chick-fil-A area marketing director. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage Atlanta community members to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their loved ones' company over a meal and celebrate the significant relationship in their lives."

Each Chick-fil-A will celebrate in its own way.

Diversity & Professional Career Fair Returns to Cobb Galleria

ATLANTA -- The 49th Atlanta Diversity & Professional Career Fair, sponsored by the Kennesaw-based Diversity Hiring Expos, will be on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Some of the region's top employers will be looking for new talent at the fair, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cobb Galleria Centre (2 Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, 30339).

Everyone is invited -- job-seekers of all races and genders, veterans, recent grads, MBAs and PhDs. Attending employers are looking to fill positions in a number of fields, including sales, finance, customer service, marketing, consulting, teaching and information technology.

Admission and parking are free, but professional dress is required.

Johnny Isakson to Speak at Cobb Chamber Breakfast

ATLANTA -- The Cobb Chamber of Commerce's First Monday Breakfast has been moved from Jan. 10 to Jan. 24 due to last week's inclement weather.

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson will be the guest speaker at the breakfast, which will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest (200 Interstate North Parkway, Atlanta, 30339).

Senator Isakson will give updates from Washington and his perspective on key national issues and the current political climate. The event is sponsored by Georgia Power Company.
