Holiday Help for Cobb County Families in Need

MARIETTA, GA -- Hundreds of Cobb County families live near, at or below the poverty line. They could use a boost, especially during the holidays.

This year, the Center for Family Resources, in partnership with the Department of Family and Children Services, will register 1,500 Cobb families for the 2010 Thanks for Giving campaign. It is estimated that this year will mark the largest Thanksgiving food distribution in the organization's history; it will take nearly 70,000 food items to ensure that every family in need receives the essentials for Thanksgiving.

Registration for Thanks for Giving 2010 will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 6 and Thursday, Oct. 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Cobb County Civic Center (548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, 30060). At this time, families can also sign up for the Cobb Christmas program.

Distribution of food boxes to registered families will be on Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 at Jim R.

Job Fair for Recent College Grads

ATLANTA -- Some surveys indicate that as many as eight out of 10 recent college graduates are struggling to land full-time jobs.

On Thursday, Oct. 14, representatives from 10 to 15 Fortune 500 companies will be gathered at a local hotel to help some of these grads find employment.

Vanguard Management Group, Inc., an Atlanta-based company, helps people find jobs through their sales-specific career fairs. Meeting face-to-face with a company is a better alternative to emailing a résumé, and this Vanguard-sponsored event allows recent grads to meet privately with hiring managers from major companies.

The job fair will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Atlanta-Galleria (2815 Akers Mill Road, Atlanta, 30339). There is no fee to attend. Professional business attire is required.
