Ga. Renaissance Festival holding auditions

SMYRNA, Ga. -- Hear ye, hear ye! The Georgia Renaissance Festival will hold auditions in February for its 2013 season.

The festival is looking for musicians, performers, magicians, jugglers, stage combat artists and more. Cast members must be at least 16 years old.

Open auditions will be held Saturday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Callbacks will be Monday, Feb. 4 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

All auditions will be held at the Smyrna Community Center, and will last roughly three minutes.

Musicians should prepare two songs of varying style and tempo for their auditions, while performers with unique skills should be ready to show off their talents.

Sink your teeth into Atlanta Ballet's 'Dracula'

ATLANTA -- A haunting ballet will return to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in February.

Michael Pink's Dracula is back by popular demand and more seductive than ever.

The production remains faithful to Bram Stoker's 1897 novel. Its score, performed by the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, is woven with the sounds of heartbeats and wolf howls to create an eerie mood.

Dracula will run Feb. 8-16. Tickets start at $20 and can be purchased at atlantaballet.com.

The Atlanta Ballet recommends Dracula for audiences 13 and older.

AKA holding peace rally for middle school students

AKA holding peace rally for middle school students

ATLANTA -- Members of metro Atlanta's chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will hold a peace rally and workshop for middle school students over the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday weekend.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Ivy Community Center in southwest Atlanta. It is part of the 40 Days of Peace project, which aims to spread service and kindness through the country.

The peace rally and workshop will aim to teach young people about Dr. King's mission, and to raise awareness of crime and crime prevention strategies. Law enforcement members will also give an interactive presentation to encourage children to stamp out gangs and bullying.

Middle school students from several metro Atlanta counties -- Cobb, Cherokee, Clayton, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale -- are expected to participate.

ATLANTA -- A free workshop on getting thousands of dollars for your child’s college education will be hosted at the following locations and at the following dates and times:

  • Hilton Garden Inn – Atlanta/Wildwood, January 17, 7:15pm to 8:45pm.
  • Hampton Inn – Fayetteville, Tuesday, January 29, 7:15pm to 8:45pm.

The speaker will be Brian J. Ball, ChFC®. He will be discussing such topics as how to send your kids to the school of their dreams without going broke; how to triple your eligibility for aid; how to find scholarships and grants you’ve never even heard of.

'Cake Boss' to visit Smyrna Kroger

SMYRNA, Ga. -- Buddy Valastro, star of the hit TLC show "Cake Boss," will host a cake signing event in Smyrna on Tuesday.

Valastro will be at the Kroger on South Cobb Drive beginning at 3 p.m. He will sign copies of his books and "Cake Boss" cake boxes.
