Kindergarten registration to open in Cobb County

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- The Cobb County School District will begin registration for Cobb County kindergarteners on March 27.

From 8:00 - 11:30 that morning, registration will be held at all Cobb elementary schools. The CCSD Bus Routes website can help parents determine which school their child will be attending. 

According to Georgia Law, all prospective kindergarten students must be at least five years of age on or before September 1. For more information, visit CCSD Enrollment online

Sheraton Suites Galleria-Atlanta to host 3rd annual 'Dare 2 Aspire' conference

ATLANTA -- The Dare 2 Aspire event is celebrating its 3rd Bi-Annual conference at The Sheraton Suites Galleria-Atlanta on Saturday, Mar. 23.

Hosted by Tosi Ufodike, this year's theme is "Dream Big & Execute."  The event is designed exclusively for women and mom-preneurs as a way to provide encouraging and inspirational for aspiring business owners. Dare 2 Aspire's mission is for women to "fulfill their destiny," and promises to offer practical knowledge in order for ladies to move towards successful careers in entrepreneurship. This year, the conference has opened its doors to college women.

Dynamic speakers will lead workshops such as "A Virtuous Woman is A Business Woman," and " "Email + Social Media Marketing=Success."  The conference also offers an opportunity for women to network and leave with a great deal of business connections.

ATLANTA -- Eight year old Ava Bullard is playing with her sisters, riding their bikes on their long country driveway. It is a simple act that defies those who said she would never talk, those who said she wouldn't function in the real world.

Ava was not a typical baby, or toddler.

Her mother Anna says, "You couldn't interact with her."

Ava did not play with toys. Did not speak. Could not dress herself. Did not interact with her parents or sisters. Slept two hours a night. She was in her own world.

Anna says, "It's like she looked straight through me. She would just...it's like you weren't there, if you were in the room with her."

Anna Bullard took Ava from doctor to doctor for months. One doctor told the family Ava was 'just weird.'

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- The Cobb Alcohol Taskforce has overhauled its website, making it more accessible for parents and residents.

The new CobbAT site features tips, resources, campaigns and research on underage binge drinking prevention.

It is all part of the organization's stated goal of expanding its community outreach in 2013.

Fulton County schools set hardship transfer application deadline

FULTON COUNTY -- For parents planning to apply for a 2013-14 hardship transfer, or to renew current hardship to another elementary, middle or high school in Fulton County, applications will be available January 4, with the deadline for submitting them on February 15, by 4:30 p.m. 

Forms are available online, on the Fulton County School's "Parents" page. Here, parents can print off the form and sign it, then deliver it to the Fulton County Schools' Student Assignment Office, c/o Meadows Operations Center at 5270 Northfield Blvd. College Park, GA 30349. The form can be faxed to the same address at (404) 763-5547.

Vinings Jubilee to light its Christmas tree Thursday

ATLANTA -- This year's Vinings Jubilee Christmas tree lighting will be held Thursday, Nov. 29.

The fun begins at 6 p.m. with music, refreshments, horse-drawn sleigh rides, face painting, pictures with Santa Claus and more.

Choirs from Teasley Elementary School and Lovett School are scheduled to perform.

Attendance is free. Vinings Jubilee is located at 4300 Paces Ferry Road.
