Taste of Atlanta announces 2013 restaurant lineup

ATLANTA -- The restaurant lineup for the 12th annual Taste of Atlanta festival is widespread, well-known and – most importantly – mouthwatering.

More than 70 of Atlanta’s most coveted and tastiest eateries have already signed on to participate in this year’s festival, which will take place October 25-27 in Midtown at Tech Square. From city classics such as Ray’s On The River and Max Lager’s to buzzworthy newcomers including Lure, King+ Duke and Saltyard, Taste of Atlanta will once again spotlight the incredible energy and diversity of the city’s restaurant scene.

(WXIA) -- First Watch has unveiled a new limited-time summer menu.

The award-winning breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant is known for its use of fresh, mostly local ingredients. It has two metro Atlanta locations.

"These limited-time offering menus have provided a great vehicle for us to broaden our culinary vision and present new, craveable dishes with unique ingredients to our guests," First Watch chief marketing officer Chris Tomasso said in a statement. "From quinoa to salmon to artichokes and fresh fruit drinks, our new offerings provide another great reason to visit First Watch."

ATLANTA -- Marlow's Tavern is celebrating summer with a new menu of patriotic plates and brews.

The Red, White and Brew dishes will be offered through Monday, July 29.

"The Red, White and Brew celebration menu is our culinary salute to this great country and the good memories summertime brings to friends and family," Marlow's Tavern co-founder and executive chef John C. Metz said in a statement.

New offerings include a beer and cheese soup; a watermelon, feta and arugula salad; a "Wild West" bison burger; a blackened swordfish dish; chili-slathered corn on the cob; and a strawberry and rhubarb layer cake.

In addition, Marlow's Tavern will offer a new sangria and a watermelon margarita.

ATLANTA (June 14, 2013) – Join Chef Ford Fry as he hosts the fifth annual JCT. Kitchen Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival on Sunday, July 21 from 1-5 p.m. This year, more than 40 of the South’s top chefs along with 15 skilled mixologists and over 30 farmers are teaming up to create the tastiest tomato concoctions and to help raise money for Georgia Organics.

“Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival is absolutely one of my favorite events,” says Ford Fry, owner/chef of JCT. Kitchen & Bar, No. 246 and The Optimist. “I love seeing the creativity of all the participants and I’m looking forward to seeing what this year’s crop of talent comes up with,” he adds.

Tickets are now on sale for $55 per person and $50 for Georgia Organics members and can be purchased online through Xorbia. Starting Monday, July 1, all ticket prices will increase to $70 per person. A total of 1,400 tickets are available for attendees. Last year’s festival brought in close to $26,000 for Georgia Organics.

Mellow Mushroom unveils 'High on Thai' menu

ATLANTA -- Atlanta-based Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers will run a special Thailand-themed promotion through July 14.

The "High on Thai" menu features several dishes with the bold, spicy and sweet components of Thai cuisine.

It includes a new appetizer, a "Big Buddha" salad, two hoagies, a dessert and, of course, a pizza -- Thai Dye, which features an olive oil and garlic base, mozzarella cheese, yellow curry, chicken, onions, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh basil and sweet chili sauce.

"Summer is the perfect time to enjoy both the freshest of ingredients and traditional Thai flavors like ginger, lime, curry, cilantro, basil, coconut and more," Mellow Mushroom VP of brand development Annica Kreider said in a statement.

Chipotle offers BOGO special for teachers

ATLANTA -- Chipotle Mexican Grill is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Day by offering buy-one-get-one menu items for educators.

On Tuesday, May 7, a teacher who shows a valid school ID at any U.S. Chipotle restaurant will receive a free burrito, burrito bowl, salad or order of tacos when they buy another menu item.

The promotion is available from 4 p.m. to close.

"We are changing the way people think about and eat fast food. This means going beyond our commitment to better food from more sustainable ingredients and working hard to engrain our restaurants in the communities that they serve," Chipotle communications director Chris Arnold said in a statement. "Connecting with educators and other key community groups is part of who we are, and we're always happy when our work makes an impact upon the communities where we operate."

Author to hold book signing at Caribou Coffee

ATLANTA -- A Mableton author will hold a book signing at a local coffeeshop next weekend.

Wayne E. Beyea is the author of The Treasure of Valcour Island. He will sign copies of the book Saturday, Apr. 20 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Caribou Coffee on Northside Parkway in Buckhead.

According to Beyea's publisher, Tate Publishing:

It was difficult to hide a body 30 feet long, 2 to 4 feet thick, and weighing nearly 6,000 pounds, but he knew every inch of the half-mile long, pitch-black cavern ... he stretched his massive, dark body against the cool stone wall and tried to blend into the dissipating darkness near the far end of the cavern.
