CHAMBLEE, Ga. -- Georgia emerged triumphant in this year's Allstate Life Insurance Atlanta 13.1 Marathon and Hyundai Hope on Wheels 5K.

The races were held Saturday and saw more than 3,600 competitors take to the streets of Brookhaven and Chamblee.

Andrew Carwood won the men's division with a time of 1:17:39. It was the 34-year-old Marietta resident's first win.

"The weather was perfect, the course was tough and the race was extremely well organized," Carwood said after winning. "Being in my mid-thirties now, training and nutrition is extremely important. I owe my wife, Becky, a huge thanks for training with me and keeping me on a solid nutrition plan."

Atlanta resident Jonathan Koch placed second with a time of 1:18:59. Paul Duckett of Dallas, Texas, came in third at 1:19:31.

Bridget Lyons, 25, of Augusta was the fastest woman with a time of 1:22:16. Smyrna resident Lauren Blankenship placed second at 1:26:26, and Douglasville's Erika Shaughnessy was third with a time of 1:26:50.
