Start! Walking for Better Heart Health

MARIETTA, GA -- Cobb residents will take steps to improve their heart health on Saturday, Oct. 23 when they participate in the American Heart Association's Start! Heart Walk.

The signature fundraising event for the American Heart Association since 1994, the Start! Heart Walk promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun family environment. Last year, more than one million walkers raised over $106 million in 425 Start! Heart Walks across the country.

Heart disease and stroke are the number one and number three killers in the country, respectively. Each day, nearly 2,400 Americans die from a cardiovascular disease; that's an average of one death every 37 seconds.

A leading risk for heart attack and stroke is lack of physical activity. Research has also found that individuals may gain two hours of life expectancy for every one hour of regular, vigorous exercise they do.

Cobb County's Start! Heart Walk will take place at Marietta Square.
